Mary "Lavilla" (Hansen) Levtzow, 90, of Rockham, SD, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at the Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez, CO.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 10, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield, SD. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 11, at the Redfield United Methodist Church in Redfield. Interment will follow at Grace Cemetery in Rockham, SD. Pastor Melissa Rowenhorst will officiate. After the burial, a celebration of Lavilla’s life will take place at the Rockham Community Center.
Masks and social distancing are required at the funeral home and church. For those unable to wear or are uncomfortable with masks, as well as those unable to attend in person, the funeral service will be live-streamed to the funeral home’s website. Mary Lavilla Hansen was born August 3, 1930, near Orient, SD, to Halbert and Leah (Downing) Hansen. She attended Orient School and graduated in 1948. After graduation, she attended summer school at Northern State University and then became a teacher at a country school near Polo, SD for two years.
She married Lyle Levtzow on February 1, 1951, at Rockham, SD. They had four children and she spent her life raising their children and helping on the farm. She always enjoyed cooking large meals for the family and many other kids that enjoyed staying and helping out at the Levtzow Farm.
Her family and faith were very important to her. She was a member of the Methodist Church, taught Sunday School, and also helped with summer bible school. She was active in the Methodist Women's group and American Legion. A couple of other favorite things in her life were bowling and playing and watching softball in which she made a lot of great memories and met a lot of great friends.
Lavilla is survived by her children: Lyla (Paul Bonneau) Walker of Lehigh Acres, FL; Jerry (Norm Grow) Levtzow of Salt Lake City, UT; Ron (Janelle) Levtzow of Rockham, SD and their children: Greg (Theresa) Levtzow and Chase, Zane, Sutten, and Faith of Rockham, Brandi (Scott) Pekarek and Ryder, Avery, and Kaysen of Highmore, SD, Jake (Jessica) Levtzow and Jayden of Rockham, and Roni (Brandon Bergquist) Levtzow of Wessington Springs, SD; Darcy (Libby Guilfoyle) Levtzow of Mancos, CO; and sisters: Phyllis Markegard of Redfield, SD and Karen (Claude) Bent of Hot Springs, SD.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; parents, Halbert and Leah Hansen; brothers: Robert Hansen and Virgil (Mildred) Hansen; and brother-in-law Dale Markegard.
